Ecological Policy Documents

Aulino Wann & Associates have compiled a diverse range of policy documents including Local Biodiversity Action Plans (LBAPs), Habitat Action Plans and Biodiversity Audits for central and local governments. These provide a framework for best practice nature protection and conservation activities.

Projects:

Local Biodiversity Action Plans for Co. Monaghan, Co Meath and Co. Louth

Action for Biodiversity (AfB) was a three-year project, funded through INTERREG IVA, coordinated by EBR Ltd and ten local authorities, which commenced in September 2010. The project will deliver a coordinated approach to biodiversity conservation and promotion on a cross border regional basis through the development of a regional framework.

The main aims of Action for Biodiversity are:

  • Building capacity
  • Raising awareness
  • Biodiversity conservation and enhancement

The production of Local Biodiversity Plans by local authorities is a key means to achieving the integration of biodiversity concerns into all relevant sectors. Among its many achievements to date, AfB has produced Local Biodiversity Action Plans covering the council areas which are members of AfB. Aulino Wann & Associates were commissioned to carry out reviews of the existing LBAPs covering the three local authority areas of Monaghan, Meath and Louth.

Biodiversity Audit for Selected Northern Ireland Local Authorities

Aulino Wann & Associates were commissioned by AfB to carry out a biodiversity audit for the following local authority areas: Armagh City and District, Banbridge District, Craigavon Borough, Ards Borough and North Down Borough. An important part of this audit was to undertake a conservation action gap analysis for each of the local authority areas. This gap analysis will guide future research, conservation management and awareness actions on priority habitats and species within the study area as well as general conservation actions.
